⚡ Time Block Smarter with Energy Awareness

May 13th 2025

Ever try to stick to a schedule that looks good in your calendar…

…but feels completely off when you try to follow it?

If so, you’re not lazy or inconsistent.

You’re probably just trying to time block against your energy, instead of with it.

That’s what we’re exploring in Part Two of this series.

When you build your schedule around your natural energy rhythms, time blocking starts to feel like support – not pressure.

Here’s a simple framework you can start using this week:

EXERCISE: How to Time Block When Your Energy Levels Fluctuate

  1. Make an Energy Calendar or Map

Track when you feel most energetic – and what kind of energy it is. Every 30 or 60 minutes, rate your energy:

  • 1 / red = little energy
  • 2 / yellow = some energy
  • 3 / green = high energy

Overlay this on your existing calendar using colours or numbers.

You can even get more specific with energy types, like:

  • Creative, focused, or conversational energy
  • Admin energy, writing energy, people energy
  • Desk energy, outdoor energy, or coworking energy

  1. Make an Energy Bucket List

Make a list of recurring or one-off tasks in your week/month. Next to each task:

  1. Assign the energy type it requires
  2. Batch similar-energy tasks together
  3. Schedule them during energy-aligned times on your regular calendar

  1. Revisit and Refine

This isn’t one-and-done. Revisit your Energy Map anytime your responsibilities or capacity shift, like changes in health, workload, or life rhythms.

This framework helps your calendar reflect your reality – and makes it way easier to follow through with focus, consistency, and ease.
