Vibe High

Out-of-office starts before you leave 🧳

August 5th, 2025

As you read this, I’m officially on a break from client work.

No live calls. No deadlines. No back-to-back meetings.

But this? It was scheduled in advance. So was next week’s content.

And my calendar? Lightened on purpose so I could ease back in without the usual post-vacation whiplash.

This didn’t happen by accident. I planned ahead – and now I get to actually enjoy the time I carved out.

How to take real time off (without guilt or chaos)

Here are the practical strategies I use myself (including this week!) that help me step away without stress:

Plan ahead + communicate clearly. I let clients know early, rescheduled calls, and delegated what I could. The earlier you plan, the more time everyone has to adjust – including you.

Block off your return week, too. Instead of jumping straight into a packed schedule, I lightened my calendar for re-entry. That buffer makes all the difference between easing back in and hitting a wall.

Delegate, automate + prep ahead. From email responders to task automation, tech can handle the routine stuff. But don’t forget the human element – having trusted people who can handle urgent matters is key. Here’s what’s worth delegating.

Set up financial cushions. One reason we feel guilty about time off? Money stress. Build the habit of setting aside funds for breaks, and encourage clients to book sessions before you’re away rather than after.

Reframe how you think about time off. It’s not selfish – it’s smart. You’re modelling healthy boundaries for your team and clients. When you don’t rest, neither do they. More on creating that work-life separation here.

Can you picture taking a full week off without stress or guilt?

If not, grab a piece of paper and jot down:

  • When your next planned break could be, (even just a long weekend)
  • What would need to happen to make that break feel easy and earned
  • Who could help make it possible

If you’re feeling bold, take it one step further – can you sketch out time off for the winter holidays now?

Time off isn’t a reward you earn – it’s a leadership move. It shows you’re playing the long game and building a business that supports your life, not the other way around.
